Christ is the foundation and head of the church. "And he is the head of the body, the church" (Colossians 1:18)

The church of Christ does not recognize any earthly religious authority as "head". In fact, there are no men or groups of men who may consider themselves to be at the vertix of the church. There are no councils, no boards and full assemblies who act as guides or controlling agents of the church.

Each church community enjoys bonds of brotherhood with other church families, they participate in conferences of study and prayer, however, no one may take away or add something to that which is written in the word of God.

No person can self-proclaim himself as God's vicar on earth.
Peter, one of the twelve apostles, spoke of Christ emphasizing this idea: "He is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:11,12)

Christ has been the means by which, through his blood, God has reconciled man to Himself. By His power manifested in the resurrection of His son "God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body.." (Ephesians 2: 22,23)
